The Renaud Foundation was created in 1994 by Serge and Jean-Jacques Renaud, sons of architect Pierre Renaud (1888-1954), a key figure in Lyon's interwar art scene. It was recognized as a charitable organization by decree on March 8, 1995. The Foundation was created in response to their desire to introduce the people of Lyon to their exceptional collections and heritage sites. These two art and heritage enthusiasts brought together a number of artists, whose works enriched the artistic heritage of the Foundation's initial collection. This collection, housed in the Fort de Vaise, comprises some 8,000 objects and works of art, illustrating the history of art in Lyon from 1880 to the present day. Today, this collection is showcased through a variety of cultural events, including 2 temporary exhibitions a year, an annual artist residency, conferences, art workshops and concerts. The Renaud Foundation is also an integral part of Lyon's cultural scene, taking part in the Tout L'Monde Dehors festival organized by the city of Lyon, and in major events such as the Nuit Européenne des Musées (European Night of Museums) and the Journées Européennes du Patrimoine (European Heritage Days).
