an exhibition with Jean-Luc Vilmouth, Perrine Lacroix, Max Sister, Gaël Lévêque, Leïla Vilmouth, Fantine Lacroix curated by Marie Brines

It was in the 1980s, in Ghent, Belgium, during an exhibition organized by Jan Hoet, called 'Chambres d’Amis'. It is undoubtedly one of the exhibitions that has most influenced my career as an artist, a very special experience... A direct connection with existence: imagine fifty artists touring the city with Jan Hoet, visiting numerous houses to find the one best suited for creating an artwork. The residents had agreed to make all or part of their homes available to the artists for three months. This was the second time I met Mario Merz in Belgium and, as always in these situations, artists would gather in certain restaurants or bars until late at night, intensely discussing the meaning of such a project. One of those evenings, in a very smoky atmosphere, I found myself at the counter talking with Mario. At one point, he took his empty glass in one hand, filled it with red wine, looked me straight in the eyes, and said... 'The important thing is to endure.'" Jean-Luc Vilmouth
