Opening night of the exhibition Tea or Coffee in the presence of the artists Cynthia Pedrosa and Ivan de la Rionda.

Join us on September 5, 2024, starting at 06:00 PM to discover the work of artists Cynthia Pedrosa and Ivan de la Rionda.

Catherine Pennec Gallery has chosen to bring these two artists together, each resonating with the theme of the 17th Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art through the voices of other artists.

Cynthia Pedrosa cites Toni Morrison "Focusing on characters and their interiors is like putting power in the hands of the person rather than their master. And loving them without necessarily approving of them, but loving them to do them justice" Emphasizing the importance of focusing on characters and their interiors to do justice to their humanity. Her work explores individual dynamics within a collective, highlighting the power relations that govern our lives.

She is dedicated to welcoming each individual as they are, listening to what they have to offer. The moment of the first encounter, often symbolized by an exchange over a cup of coffee or tea, is crucial for her, as it embodies the welcome of the other, without judgment, and in their uniqueness. This approach is closely tied to her experience in the social field, where she learned the importance of the first encounter and the authentic welcome of the other.

Ivan de la Rionda cites Theodor W. Adorno "Art is magic delivered from the lie of being true." For him, art resides in the ability to go beyond reality to reveal the hidden truth behind appearances. Thus, the essential also requires a gesture. Although a trace of paint reveals an apparent reality, it also conveys an illusion of the fullness of emptiness. He attempts to lift the veil to reach a truth that transcends him, making the spectator feel welcomed and close to the artistic process. He believes in art that allows the recognition of the other, in a direct and visual language, in which one can surrender to the calm of contemplation.

His artworks speak for themselves. The artist wishes to develop an exchange that goes far beyond cultural, linguistic, and social differences; the image is universal, inviting the spectator to gaze and question.
