Julian Charrière’s work probes the complex relationship between humans and nature over geological and historical periods. The Metamorphism series, displayed in cabinets like mineral fragments from a futuristic natural history museum, are clusters of cultural remains set in a geological matrix. The artist melted down components of various technological devices (motherboards, hard disks, processors and RAM cards of laptops and smartphones) into an ersatz lava, thus taking them back to their geological roots. These three polychrome sculptures prompt us to reflect on the extraction and use of raw materials, and on the future of the artificial products in our civilisation.
Also on view at the Fagor factories and URDLA.
