Born 1974 in Guadalajara, Mexico, where he lives and works.
Tapping into his architect’s training, Jose Dávila seeks with his sculptures to elude notions of stability and permanence through precarious balance. His oeuvre is a host of contrasts – between organic and geometric, natural and artificial, fragile and solid. This installation, la science, comme la réalité, reste platonicienne made from rocks and second-hand furniture found in Lyon, subverts the habitual purpose of these objects through play with tensioning and precarious balance. The piece enlists the forces of physics to interrogate the fragility of existence and human resistance.
