Painting with watercolour and acrylic, and in Payne’s grey only, Giulia Andreani conjures forgotten histories, buried narratives and invisibilised people. As a “memory worker”, she composes her pictures from various sources – archival documents, vintage photographs and screen grabs of films and documentaries – to craft new possible ways of reading history. Two of her small canvases are on show in the vast halls of the Fagor Factory. In HH, Andreani depicts the German Dadaist artist Hannah Höch, whose collage work has inspired her practice; and in Diavoletta, she represents a little girl disguised as a devilish imp.
