2021 should have been the occasion to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Lyon Biennale. Postponed by one year due to the covid-19 pandemic, its 16th edition, scheduled in 2022, will see its guest curators Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath looking to weave Lyon’s layered history with complex present-day issues.
Departing from a renewed exploration of several occurrences that continue to define the city, the 16th LyonBiennale will employ the “local” as a springboard to respond to transversal questions, reflecting on a number of possibilities of how to fully “be” in the world.
Evoking the pulse of the time, and with an unyielding faith in the essential role of art in times of collective crisis, the Biennaleupcoming edition will seek to propose ways in which we can come together when proximity has become something that we fear, yet profoundly desire.
