The Museum of Valence, a reinvented palace Situated in the heart of Valence, adjoining the Cathedral of Saint Apollinaire, the Museum of Valence is located in the former Episcopal palace, a vast private mansion surrounded by a courtyard and gardens overlooking the Rhône. Its secular heritage (medieval tower, ogival gallery, 15th and 17th century painted ceilings) has been preserved and enriched by major building work completed in December 2013. Renovation and modern architectural extensions (by the architectural studio of Jean-Paul Philippon) allow the visitor to experience a multitude of atmospheres and perspectives of the surrounding landscape. Our collections of archaeology and art, including an exceptional exhibit of works by Hubert Robert, place us within a new class of museum, dedicated to the enjoyment of the visiting experience.
