A dialogue between bodies and materials, metamorphoses, overflow: Borda by Lia Rodrigues is not a geographical border lined with walls or barbed wire. It is a place of invisible crossings and frictions — a space of care, fertile contaminations, and joyful hybridizations.
Starting from disturbance is sometimes the best way to shake the lines. This may be why the titles chosen by Lia Rodrigues are always so rich in meaning. Borda, in Portuguese, refers both to a border and to the patient gesture of embroidery. Can we, through the power of imagination and movement, bring down some of the world’s deadly walls? Can we redefine dividing lines as spaces of possibility and transformation?
For the third part of a trilogy that began with Fúria and continued with the mesmerizing Encantado, the Brazilian choreographer draws on the archives of her company as raw material for metamorphosis. On stage, bodies, objects, and textiles of all kinds shift from one state to another, merging and hybridizing to create a new, ever-changing organism. At the edges of the world, different forms of life intertwine their fates to let something new take root — a promise for the times ahead.
