Linked to the history of a family of papermakers from Annonay to whom we owe the invention of first hot air balloon, Perrine Lacroix is developing a protean project as much around the paper than flight. Alongside his research and for several months, the artist offered people in exile to appropriate a work from the art library with which everyone develops an intuitive, attentive and creative relationship. Each “undocumented person”, while learning French, becomes familiar with a work through speech, writing or artistic practice. “Untitled” evokes both their situation “without a residence permit” as much as certain captions of works borrowed from the art library. On the window of the new GAC, the prints of these selected works constitute a checkerboard in negative, composed of numerous open windows, awaiting works. During the summer, this immaculate painting shows breakthroughs on the place in the making. Thus in the area of dematerialization, the artist explores the different universes of a collection but also that of the paper which constitutes it, from its history to its manufacturing as much through its poetic, symbolic and political potential.
