It's all a question of point de vue.

Marie Bourget's work oscillates between a protean approach to the codes of representation and an ironic distancing, where the most serious objects lend themselves to a smile. For this major artist of the late 20th century, it's all a question of point of view. Marie Bourget invites us to question the limits of attempts to transcribe reality, where the graphic and sculptural arts must resort to more or less conventional codes, to a set of 'tricks' designed to deceive the eye, with the illusory aim of retranscribing the unrepresentable. Unable to achieve a direct representation of perspective, light or the reflective surface of a mirror, the artist has to resort to illusionist devices to evoke an obviousness that eludes the usual ability to transcribe reality. Marie Bourget invites viewers to rediscover their youthful eyes and laugh at these images. The exhibition at Galerie Houg aims to highlight the richness and complexity of Marie Bourget's work through a remarkable group of installations, sculptures and graphic works, some of which have never been shown before. Following on from exhibitions at the Consortium in Dijon and the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris over the last two years, it also aims to provide a fresh perspective on the artist's work.
