More than just a drink, more than a social act, coffee is the initiator of appointments, the pretext for meetings, a faithful friend, and the feeling of “home”.

Deeply inscribed in the City as a place of debate and thought, coffee is also a social drink par excellence. In the intimacy of a private interior or on the terrace of a crowded café, this drink echoes various cultural practices, various economic issues and social contexts.

On the occasion of this exhibition, the works of Tanguy Luttmann and Cemre Nomer meet for the first time. They each evoke in their own way a very personal vision of coffee, from their childhood. The drink is both mystified, through distorted memories and fascinating traditions, and questioned, as a characteristic element of certain divisions in our society.

Cemre Nomer, in a project entitled “En avoir marc du café” explores and reinterprets the ancestral practice of coffeedomancy through a contemporary perspective. During a series of performances, she invites the public to discover and engage with this age-old tradition in a new way. In his paintings, Tanguy Luttmann focuses on the meetings around a coffee that were improvised around his aunts, when the women of his family met for the holidays. He contrasts these moments with the coffees taken in the village PMU which brought together mainly men and triggered other conversations.
