From September 14 to November 23, 2024, URDLA presents La Maladie du Sens, an ambitious monographic exhibition by Anne-Lise Broyer for a dialogue between engraving and photography.

Capturing a story to make images is a necessary approach in the work of Anne-Lise Broyer. After a long experience with Georges Bataille, she took up La Maladie du Sens (2001, Éditions P.O.L.) by Bernard Noël. He proposes an astonishing text: portrait of Stéphane Mallarmé from the point of view of his wife. A text that, according to the artist, succeeds in "restoring both, from within feelings and language, in a very serious game where the flesh of words, their sonority and their meaning are exchanged." For the artist, it is Mallarmé who makes matrix of this experience as of a crossing of his life and his work by the image. From Bernard Noël, she draws more a method: «speaking inside language».

This work, far from being a photographic report, is combined with that of the printed image. The result is a production of images that mixes intaglio (printing engravings on copper), printed on silver prints. This dialogue in the matter of the image leads to the making of a «writing by the image», so it tries to make an image as one writes a poem.

A work of writing by the material that was rewarded by the Stampa scholarship of 2023, a device of the ADAGP.

Opening on Saturday 14 September from 2 pm to 6 pm.
