4th nOmad Art Triennial

Launch of the 4th art nOmad 2024 Triennial - ‘la Maison Initiale: a Neonomade Odyssey

Before embarking on its lightning migration from Arnac-la-Poste to Vila do Conde in October (with stops in Bordeaux, Pau, San Sebastian and Porto), the 4th art nOmad Triennale, at the invitation of the KOMMET art centre, will be launched on Friday 27 September, at Place Gabriel-Péri in Lyon. The Triennale will be delighted to begin its brand new history at the 17th Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art, whose theme of hospitality and welcoming others echoes its own concerns.

The art nOmad Triennial is in fact a collective, participatory performance in a lorry, which travels for as long as it lasts (less than two weeks), meeting new audiences day after day, which it receives around its lorry (the Véhicule art nOmad or ‘Van’), itself hosted in different territories, by different partners and in different contexts in France and abroad. This triennial is led by its author Clorinde Coranotto and supported by the art nOmad association (based in Arnac-la-Poste).

For this fourth edition, the association has invited David Legrand, collective artist and ‘bird, nomad, pilgrim, almost fugitive’, to weave a curatorial scheme in which the works of other ‘bird’ artists from all horizons are intertwined in a desire for open and unexpected dialogue. The mutant van housing their intimate stories is transformed into a shimmering, fairground house on wheels, complete with a temporary cinema designed by the Encastrable collective.

So on Friday 27 September, in the public square, a passing tribe made up of members of art nOmad, the curator, artists, students and teachers from the Limoges National School of Art and Design (École nationale supérieure d'art et de design de Limoges) will be giving the people of Lyon a sneak preview of this exhibition, which is all about hybridisation and forging links of all kinds. From its installation in the afternoon to its dismantling at midnight, the public will also be able to attend free screenings and performances, including those by Lisa Di Giovanni and Rémi Voche, and take part in ongoing art workshops open to all.

Artists featured: Juan Aizpitarte / Leigh Barbier / Johana Beaussart / Fabrice Cotinat / Estelle Deschamp / Encastrable (collective) / Lisa Di Giovanni / Françoise Goria / Séverine Hubard / In Vitro (Xiyue Hu and Xing Xiao) / Boris Lehman / Rainier Lericolais / Marie Losier / Lionel Magal dit Fox / Charlemagne Palestine / João Tabarra / Danielle Vallet Kleiner / Rémi Voche / Woojung Yim / Philippe Zunino
