Since 2021, La Serre and the Creux de l'enfer national art centre (Thiers), have been working in partnership to organise a residency aimed at improving the artistic presence in their area and encouraging the public to encounter the art of our time. The winner of the 2024 competition, designer Grégory Granados, is presenting the results of his residency at La Serre in an exhibition entitled Résonances industrielles.

As a designer, Grégory Granados collects, splits up and assembles objects with the aim of diverting their original purpose and inventing new uses for them. During his creative residency, he set about collecting industrial spare parts salvaged from industries based in the Thiers and Saint-Etienne areas. By collecting and assembling these fragments, the artist has created a series of objects witness to the industrial history of Thiers and Saint-Etienne, and to the skills and know-how of the workers. Diverted and fused by the addition of 3D composite elements, these materials are embodied in sculptural and mutant archives that bring together the worlds of art, craft and industry.

Originating from Rouen, Grégory Granados is a graduate of the Saint-Etienne School of Art and Design in 2018 after training in cabinet-making. In 2019, he won the grand prize at the Villa Noailles Design Parade, which opened up opportunities for collaboration with the Manufacture de Sèvres, the CIRVA, the Saint-Louis crystal works and the Hermès group. In 2020 he was awarded the Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris under the chairmanship of Matali Crasset. Since 2018, Grégory Granados has had the use of a studio in the former school of fine arts of Saint-Étienne. Link to artist website: Step (projetstep.fr)
