In her project ILLUSIO VIRILE, Laurie Joly asks the question of “masculine” Identity to starting from the injunction to “be up to the task”, a universal, timeless and protean duty which is exercised in a system of tests and proofs.
The artist brings into play the notion of fall in its dimension of a possible deviation from the standards. She is interested in space and times specific to the loss of balance that she experiences between putting the body in tension and performativity of gestures and postures. The first form of the ILLUSIO VIRILE project presents an installation which was designed to the Crèmerie space and part of which was produced during the artist’s residency at the month of March 2024. It combines Photography, Video, Sound and Volume in a report to the measurement - body measurement, space measurement, time measurement - and in a betting game into the abyss of spaces, bodies and processes.
