Marie-Agnès Charpin is engaged in research that involves work processes based on the calendar principle, the system of time division and image composition processes.
The universal notion of time is the reflexive object of his approach. It is also a pretext for developing organizational strategies of composition and therefore addressing the concept of movement in the work.
Drawings and paintings materialized in the form of "calendar diagrams" and "variable combinations" are at the heart of the artist's personal program: to reveal an image of time materialized and formulated in a systemic, repetitive and serial manner. Including time as a dimension of the work consists in finding its image and preserving it. Picture time. That's what it's all about!
Lines, lines, flat tints, gray values and monochromatic shades are de rigueur in his works. They are geometric abstractions affiliated with concrete art in which a formal language is developed related to the relationship between emptiness and fullness, black and white, concept and strategy.
Whatever the protocol chosen to define an image of time, the works of Marie-Agnès Charpin are hypotheses constantly renewed according to a conceptual and abstract perception, to represent an image considered as the pure presence of time.
