Matthias Odin investigates our relationship with familiar objects through works that evoke his own experiences. From his roamings in the city, where he made friends with people he had happened upon, he has kept souvenirs in the form of abandoned or salvaged objects that become components of his sculptures, assemblages and installations. Wandering around, meeting people, getting lost, selfconstruction and adaptation are his favourite subjects.

Matthias Odin invites us to enter an environment where familiar objects — staged and misappropriated from their original purpose — make us feel intuitively that we are in somebody’s home. An architecture of the intimate, Vortex aEra Player reflects the years the artist spent wandering. Matthias Odin presents an oblique portrait of friends and family who put him up or took him in temporarily, by inviting them to display some of their belongings. Integrated into these assemblages and highlighted by a luminous aura, these memories are transformed into relics, punctuating the space of this emotional ecosystem. On another level, there is a critique of the precariousness of housing, visitors are invited to wander around a 9m² studio apartment, the minimum legally allowed living space in France.
